"Children are the Future of Our Community"
Community Service Award
The Juanita Neighborhoods Association supports youth leadership and community service in our neighborhood through a Student Community Service Award presented at our neighborhood meetings. The award recognizes a Juanita High School student and their involvement in the community.
Congratulations to Michael Gengo, a senior at Juanita High School and first recipient of the Juanita Neighborhoods Association Student Community Service Award during the November 2016 General Meeting. Michael is responsible for the six high-quality interpretive signs in Edith Moulton Park.
A Juanita High School student is recognized with a Student Community Service Award during the November, January, March, and May General Meetings!
Safe Routes to Schools
In 2005, the US Department of Transportation and Congress established the Safe Routes to Schools program. Its purpose was to improve safety and increase the number of children who walk or bike to school. In 2009, Washington State formalized this program through state legislation and funding priorities.
The JNA supports Safe Routes to Schools initiatives by recommending school walk route safety improvements to the City of Kirkland and Lake Washington School District. Student walkers and bicyclists are considered when evaluating projects for submission to Kirkland’s Neighborhood Safety Program (NSP) annual grants.
If you have a project idea that would improve student walk routes, please let us know!
